We know that no one looks forward to a visit to an oral surgeon, but we promise to do our best to help you feel comfortable here. If there is ever anything that we can do to make your experience better, please let any member of our team know.
Visit #1: The SOMS Consultation
Your first visit with us will usually be for a surgical consultation. Sometimes surgery can be performed on the same day as the consultation, but this is on a case-by-case basis depending on your medical history, diagnosis, and treatment plan. The consultation appointment is very important for new patients, because it allows us to establish a relationship with you. We want to get to know you, your medical history, and clearly explain your current situation, diagnosis and treatment options to you.
You can help us prepare for your first visit by completing our HIPAA Secure Online Patient Registration in advance. Please also bring to your appointment your referral card (if you have one), any x-rays that you may have, as well as your medical and dental insurance cards. Any patients under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all office visits.
A word about x-rays…
We will do our best to use any recent x-rays that have been taken by your dentist. To help us with this, please call your dentist and ask them to send any relevant x-rays to our office at office@schiffmanoms.com. Please understand that despite doing this, often times additional x-rays may need to be taken at our office. This is especially true if the prior x-rays are not of sufficient quality, or if they do not show what our surgeons need to see.
